The Administration released its FY 2001 budget request on February 7, 2000. It features significant funding increases for a host of initiatives in R&D, including Information Technology R&D, a new interagency crosscut that combines the High Performance Computing and Communications program, the Next Generation Internet initiative, and the Information Technology for the 21st Century initiative. Support for IT R&D would grow by 35 percent under the FY 2001 spending plan.
