NSF bill passes in Senate
The Senate passed a bill in late September containing appropriations for the National Science Foundation's 1996 budget. The Senate bill would provide NSF with an overall $3.2 billion, topping the House version by $40 million. This difference is reflected only in the NSF's research activities component, as all other accounts are identically funded by the House and Senate versions. At press time, a House and Senate conference committee was expected to meet to reconcile any differences between the two bills. The extra $40 million for research activities proposed by the Senate would bring 1996 funding for this account to $14 million more than the 1995 level. |
