INTERNET2 NETWORK RESEARCH WORKSHOP, APRIL 18-19, 2001, CHICAGO, IL

A Call for Interest has been issued for the next Internet2 Research Workshop.

The Internet2 Project now provides over 175 leading research universities in the United States with advanced infrastructure capable of very high performance. Internet2 will convene network researchers from the computer science community to explore ways in which Internet2 could facilitate their research. Individuals wishing to participate should submit a proposal by March 8, 2001. For more information, visit http://www.internet2.edu/events/NRW2.shtml

PITAC'S EXPIRATION DATE EXTENDED

President Bush extended the President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee for a little more than three months. The PITAC, a group of 30 information technology experts from industry and academia, was formed in 1997 under an executive order signed by President Clinton in 1999. Clinton’s order called for the PITAC to shut down at midnight Feb. 11. Bush’s executive order extends that deadline to June 1. For more information, visit the PITAC homepage at http://www.itrd.gov/ac/

NSF EHR DIRECTORATE SEEKS PROPOSALS

The National Science Foundation Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR) is actively seeking strong educational proposals from computer scientists. NSF staff has pointed out to CRA that the success rate for proposals to EHR is significantly higher than that of proposals to CISE or ITR. They also point out that the funding level for some of the computer science education programs is dependent on the past number and funding level of submissions and awards, so that more good proposals this year may well translate into additional available grant funds next year. There are two computer scientists in the education directorate who are able to discuss proposal ideas with you: John Cherniavsky (phone 703-292-5136, email jchernia@nsf.gov) and Andrew Bernat (phone 703-292-4647, email abernat@nsf.gov)
