I feel as though
this week was way too short for everything that we had to get
done. So the week started off well until our meeting with Marie,
when I found out that my understanding of the project was slightly
flawed. And when I say slightly, I mean mostly. I confused attribute
space with layout space, and didn't quite understand the concept
of attribute space.
All's well
now though, I understand the concepts, and it was really a minor
change to the code to get it to cluster by different values. Got
to play around with vectors though, which was a nice change from
the int[], double[], String[] and even those fascinating, wait
for it, double[][]! Twice the fun!
Sorry, I'm
feeling enthusiastic tonight. And perhaps a little silly.
The rest of
the week has been spent in adapting the program to be more general
and to be more efficient. I spent quite a bit of time testing
out the clustering algorithm to make sure that it was doing what
I wanted it to do. And interestingly enough, the errors that I
was getting while using layout space suddenly disappeared when
I switched to attribute space. I never did quite figure that one
out.
I'm looking
forward to testing this in n-dimensions. I have trouble
thinking in more than three, so it will be interesting to see
how it goes, and how I evaluate it.
It's rather
interesting though, doing this 40+ hours a week. At college, if
you were having a problem, you'd work on it, and then you would
probably have some unrelated class. When you came back to the
problem, you would figure it out. But here, you actually have
to tear yourself away from that computer to be able to look at
a problem differently. I'm having some problems with that.
At first it
also seemed as though this was going really slowly. We were a
month into the project! Shouldn't it be done by now? And then
I realized, this isn't a homework assignment. You do have deadlines,
but they're not quite as short as homework deadlines. It's definitely
a different way of thinking.
In Other News:
Actually, there is no other news besides receiving confirmation
of housing for next semester.
