My name is Michelle Annett. I am currently a Computing Science major at the University of Alberta. I started my education in the Grant Macewan College university transfer program in 2003, and in 2005 I transfered over to the UofA to complete my remaining two years. My undergraduate degree was conferred on June 11, 2007 and I will be entering into the Computing Science Master's program at the UofA in September 2007. My areas of interest in Computing Science include software engineering, human-computer-interaction, robotics and computational linguistics. I also have an 'unofficial' minor in psychology, as I have chosen to take all of my electives in psychology and enjoy learning about how humans do things. If one doesn't understand how they do something, how can they expect to adequately 'mimic' or 'model' this behavior in a machine? I also enjoy volunteering at numerous conferences at occur at the UofA (WIT, WISEST, YSC) and have/will continue to supervise and mentor high school WISEST and intern students this summer. I am also the software co-leader of a UofA Engineering student group called ARVP (Autonomous Robotic Vehicle project). The ARVP software team works on robotic vision, path-planning, artifical intelligence and software problems to assist a student-designed autonomous robot in navigating an obstacle course. My summer 2007 CDMP project will be a continuation of my 2006 NSERC USRA research project AnnokiBlooms (View AnnokiBlooms on the Web). After AnnokiBlooms is completed, I will begin work on my Masters thesis project, which involves working with the IBM Second Life Project. |
